Wine Review: This pale straw colored Riesling from Wittman is very good. It opens with a gentle lemon-lime bouquet with hints of orange peel and stone dust. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with plus acidity that settles with time. The mouthfeel is initially bright, zesty, and full of life. The flavor profile is a stony minerality and lemon-lime citrus blend with notes of saline, ginger, and white pepper. I also detected some hints of Anjou pear in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and quite refreshing. I would pair this impressive dry (Trocken) Riesling with sauteed bay scallops with lemon butter. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: A stunning and complex "premier cru" dry Riesling that was selected from two grand cru (Grosse Lage) vineyard sites. A stunning and complex "premier cru" dry Riesling, the Westhofener Riesling bears the new VDP Rheinhessen designation, "Aus Ersten Lagen," which simply means "from premier cru vineyards."
