Wine Review: This dark garnet colored Merlot opens with a black currant and pencil lead bouquet with hints of black licorice and tobacco leaf. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and plush. The flavor profile is graphite and black olive blend with notes of blueberry and cinnamon. I also detected hints of dark chocolate, black tea, and black cherry. The finish is dry, and its moderate chalky tannins stick around for a little while. I would decant this Merlot to soften it up a bit. Then I would pair it with a grilled hanger steak. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2022 Titus Merlot is a wonderful expression of this classic variety. Notes of red fruit, cherry, anise and fall spices jump out of the glass on the first swirls. The wine is smooth, with rounded medium bodied texture, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity contribute to the freshness of the palate. Bing cherry, strawberry, pomegranate, and cinnamon lead the way with well-integrated oak and Earl Grey Tea rounding out the palate into a finish that is supple and lingering. Enjoy through 2034.
