Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Merlot is initially tight and needs to be decanted for a very long time or left in your cellar for a while. That said, once this wine opens up, you will be pleasantly rewarded. This wine opens with a wet stone and blackberry bouquet with notes of black raspberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied and slight acidic. With time and air, its juicy fruit evolve and step forward. The flavor profile is a mild mineral influenced black cherry and cassis blend with notes of blueberry and oolong tea. The finish is dry and its dusty tannins linger and last for a very long time. In the near term, the Panel would pair this Merlot with a ribeye steak after decanting for at least an hour or more. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2017 Merlot opens with boysenberry, pomegranate, and red cherry aromas layered with violets, allspice, clove and anise supported by a distinct minerality. Fresh and bright on the palate, the sweet fruit broadens on the palate with tannins candied on the edges finishing with the signature Spring Mountain cocoa powder tannins. Drink now or cellar for 5-7 years.
