Wine Review: This dark ruby colored wine from Toscana opens with a fragrant black cherry and oak bouquet with a hint of graphite. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, nicely balanced and rather smooth. The flavor profile reflects the nose. It features oak influenced black cherry with a nice streak of graphite running through the middle. I also detected hints of black tea and nutmeg. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are well-managed and stick around for a while. This wine is food friendly and would pair nicely with roasted chateaubriand with red wine-mushroom reduction sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Sunshine and mild temperatures allowed the fruit plenty of time to ripen on the vine, leading to lush Merlot and spicy Cabernet Franc components. The nose highlights the cooler part of the vintage expressing cypress, mushrooms and forest floor, with some spices of nutmeg and cinnamon. On the palate, fruits are rich and powerful dominated by ripe black cherry and plum. The mouthfeel is balanced with soft, silky tannins and vibrant acidity. An uplifting finish with a hint of citrus, lingering dark chocolate and tobacco. 2016 is an extraordinary vintage that will age gracefully for a decade or more.
