Wine Review: This garnet-colored Alicante Bouchet from St. Amant opens with a red raspberry and cedar bouquet with hints of black plum and tobacco. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, and friendly. The flavor profile is a juicy black plum and marionberry blend with notes of cedar and stone dust. I also detected hints of oolong tea and a dash of black pepper. The finish is rather dry, and its fine dusty tannins linger and last for a while. I would pair this tasty Alicante Bouchet a filet mignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This heirloom variety was popular during Prohibition for its ease of shipping due to its thick skin, loose cluster, and dark color. This unusual, red-fleshed grape has been farmed at Mohr-Fry Ranch since 1922 and has played a significant role in Lodi and California wine history. Flavors of black cherry, plum and spice.
