Wine Review: This cloudy dark ruby colored Pinot was quite popular at a recent mini tasting I conducted. It opens with a very fragrant black raspberry bouquet with a hint of strawberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, well balanced, and easy going. The flavor profile is a tasty black raspberry with notes of mild oak and a dash of pepper. The finish is dry and its very mild tannins are a touch chalky. This crowd pleasing Pinot is a quaffer. Pair it with slow cooked pork short ribs. Yum! Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2008 Siduri Sta. Rita Hills is a blend of 31% Clos Pepe and 69% Cargasacchi fruit. It shows wonderful notes of rose petal, lilac, blackberry, and raspberry on the nose. The mouth is full, rich, and seamless, exhibiting a wonderful velvet-like texture and concentrated fruit flavors joined by vanilla and hints of dried herbs. The finish is persistent, dancing on a balance beam of fine tannins and acidity. We have no doubts that this wine will age well but it is so compelling now that we can’t keep our hands off of it.
