Wine Review: This opaque and dark ruby colored Cab Franc based blend from South Africa opens with a red currant and strawberry rhubarb bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic and juicy. The flavor profile is a mineral infused red plum with notes of cedar and red currant. I also detected hints of raspberry tea. The finish is dry and its mild tannins fade away nicely. This wine is food friendly and would pair well with a pork tenderloin with a fig and port sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Red Jasper is a tribute to Bruwer's late father, Jasper, who was one of Raats' founders and the viticulturist for nine years. This complex Cabernet Franc-driven Bordeaux blend shows blackberry and black cherry on the nose, along with the perfume and violets one would expect from a Cabernet Franc based wine. The palate offers luscious brambly berry fruit intertwined with hints of tobacco, anise and dark chocolate. Silky tannins caress the palate, and a lovely minerality shines through on the long, supple finish.
