Wine Review: This pitch-black colored blend from Quinta de la Rosa opens with a pleasant ripe blackberry bouquet with a hint of balsamic. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and rich. The flavor profile is a blackberry jam and stewed plum blend with notes of minerality. I also detected some hints of boysenberry, black licorice and smoky oak mixed in. The finish is dry and its fruit and moderate tannins are nicely extended. This is a nice fireplace wine for a cold evening. Sip it with sharp cheddar cheese and a sliced cured meat stick. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: On the nose, wild herbal, shrub-like flavors of the Douro are evident. The ripeness of the La Rosa 2017 is almost perfect, giving good aromatic complexity but maintaining all the freshness and elegance. It is quite full bodied with lively tannins highlighting the flavors and giving the wine life. Being quite approachable as a young wine, it can either be drunk now or kept for up to 5 or so years. Serve at cellar temperatures with any meat dish or cheese.
