Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and midnight purple colored Merlot from Predecessor on Howell Mountain opens with a black currant and tobacco bouquet with hints of cinnamon, cedar, and balsam. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, lush, and seamless. The flavor profile is a black cherry and stony minerality blend with notes of tobacco and toasty oak. We also detected hints of cinnamon, black pepper, milk chocolate, and fig. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed polished dusty tannins build-up and stick around for a bit. We would pair this Merlot with a porterhouse steak or a pot roast.
