Wine Review: This dark magenta colored Merlot from Predecessor on Howell Mountain opens with a wild strawberry and pencil lead bouquet with hints of cherry compote, lilac, and pepper. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, plush, and seamless. The flavor profile is complex. There are layers featuring tobacco, cassis, and graphite with notes of black pepper, oak, and black olive. We also detected hints of black cherry and a touch of cranberry. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and very grippy tannins build-up and go on forever with a touch of mint showing up at the very end. We would pair this Merlot with Colorado lamb chops.
