Wine Review: The 2010 Merlot from Plumpjack will certainly be near the top of the list of Merlots that I cover in 2012. It is an opaque and very dark purple colored Merlot. It opens with a fragrant and very inviting black cherry and boysenberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, nicely balanced and very flavorful. The flavor profile is a very tasty ripe black plum with notes of black pepper. I also detected hints of black currant. The finish is dry and its moderate refined tannins drift away nicely. I would serve this delightful wine with a pepper encrusted NY Strip Steak. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: In a brilliant juxtaposition of dense fruit and light acidity, aromas of Black Cherry, Baked Plums, and Blackberry welcome the senses and are followed with warm notes of Dark Fudge, Chocolate, and Vanilla Beans. On the palate, Raspberry Cordial, Cherry Pie Filling, and Cedar box mingle with hints of Cinnamon. A stunning example of all the best Merlot has to offer, the lush mouth-feel and complexity of flavors culminate in a rich finish.
