Wine Review: This very dark garnet colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Neil Ellis opens with a black currant and espresso bouquet with hints of stewed plum, pencil shavings, and fig. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and bright for a Cab. The flavor profile is a slightly tart red cherry and graphite blend with notes of black raspberry and cocoa. I also detected hints of black currant and red licorice. The finish is dry, and its acidity and dusty tannins are quite extended. This South African Cab would pair well with grilled lamb burgers. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Intense dark color. A pretty subtle, intriguing, and appetizing nose with blue and blackberries and typical cedar aromas from the Jonkershoek Valley. The palate is nervous and fresh, followed by a well-defined tannin structure. This is a wine built to last and early drinking would benefit with decanting. Pair with venison or ribeye on the bone.
