Wine Review: Merriam 2018 Pinot Noir "Cuvee" (RRV) $34 250 cs (89+) This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merriam opens with an oak, blackberry and black cherry bouquet with hints of earthy loam, craisin and mushrooms. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with slightly elevated acidity. We also found it to be juicy and round. The flavor profile is a cocoa dust influenced ripe black plum with notes of mulberry and RC Cola. We also detected hints of raspberry, clove and oak in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and its flavors and integrated tannins linger nicely. We would pair this Pinot with mushroom risotto or the grilled wild boar tenderloin from Jiko at Disney’s Animal Kingdom lodge. Enjoy – Ken & Joe
Winemaker Notes: The 2018 Pinot Noir Cuvee is a bold expression of a Burgundian Pinot Noir. Rich notes of black plum, toasted caramel and baking spices complement the fruit aromas of fresh raspberry and cherry cola. Pairs well with grilled and roasted meats, prosciutto and mushrooms. For heartier options, try beef stew, pasta Bolognese or pan-seared pork belly.
