Wine Review: This opaque and dark ruby colored Cab based blend from Merriam is initially a big boy, but settles down nicely with some air. It opens with a relatively quiet nose, featuring mild kirsch, prune and oak. However, on the palate this wine is full bodied, balanced, lush and very fruit forward. Once in your mouth, it explodes with extracted macerated Bing cherries, gentle oak and some notes of red currant. I also detected hints of pomegranate, minerality, and spiced rum towards the end. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are rather sticky and linger for a very long time. I would decant this wine for 30 minutes and pair it with a New York strip steak. Enjoy - Ken
