Wine Review: This brick red colored Merlot from Mercer opens with a ripe black fruit bouquet, including blackberry, black cherry and hints of plum and nice oak. This full-bodied Merlot is fruity with blackberries and is dry with bold tannins and a slightly sweet palate. The bold tannins mellow slightly after an hour or so of decanting. The finish is a dry and black cherry flavors linger with hints of coffee. This Merlot is a big boy and does not possess the low tannins and smooth characteristics one would expect from the varietal. I would pair this Merlot from Horse Heaven Hills with a juicy mushroom cheddar burger. – Joe
Winemaker Notes: Notes of cocoa powder, ripe blueberry and plum mingle with sweet caramel and vanilla. In the palate, the fruit is plum and dark cherry. This wine has a structural core of powdery tannins that are lifted with a touch of acidity. This big, bold Merlot will pair well with many dishes and has amazing aging potential.
