Wine Review: This deep ruby colored Zinfandel from Paso Robles opens with a brambly blackberry and red raspberry bouquet with hints of strawberry, cinnamon, and mango. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round, fresh, balanced, and very juicy. The flavor profile is a concentrated blackberry, stewed plum and anise blend. We also detected notes of black pepper and clove along with hints of stony minerality and oak closing it out. The finish is dry and its moderate dusty tannins stick around for quite a while. We would pair this very good big boy Zin with a smoked pork tenderloin with spicy whiskey peach BBQ sauce or with a messy rack of Firefly’s St. Louis ribs with Memphis sauce. Enjoy – Ken & Mark
Winemaker Notes: Aromatics: raspberry fruit roll-up, cherry pie, açai, cranberry-blood orange relish, red licorice, star anise, cardamom, and tamarind.
On the palate: Juicy, lush, generous, balancing fruit and warm savory spices.
Enjoy with: Savory, warm-spiced dry rubbed braised pork belly.
