Wine Review: This translucent and light red colored Nebbiolo from Barbaresco opens with a red cherry and gentle cedar bouquet with hints of strawberry, violets, and tobacco. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, and approachable. The flavor profile is tasty red cherry and mild cedar blend with notes of flint and red plum. I also detected hints of tobacco. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and refined dusty tannins that stick around for a very long time. I would pair this friendly Barbaresco with Italian briciole. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The Cavanna vineyard is the one held most dear by the Giordanos. It was the first to be vinified as a single vineyard by Luigi in 1971. The family has been the only producer to produce a Barbaresco bearing the vineyard designation. The 2021 is super pretty with wafting aromas of fresh raspberry and warmed rose. There is also a medley of freshly milled sweet, picante, and savory spices add to the enticing bouquet. On the palate, it is generous and inviting and verging on luscious. It displays notes of tart cherries and fresh currants keeping things lively alongside crunchy acidity and a snap of crisp earth. Subtle hints of tea and wild herbs add complexity to the finish, which is framed by elegant and fine tannins. From the stellar 2021 Barbaresco vintage, this is one you can treat yourself now.
