Wine Review: This ruby colored Pinot Noir from J Vineyards is very interesting and complex. It opens with pomegranate and red raspberry like bouquet with hints of strawberry licorice. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, nicely balanced and savory. The flavor profile is a black pepper infused red raspberry with notes of old oak, black cherry and cola. The finish is dry and its flavors linger for quite a while. This Pinot would pair nicely with comfort foods. Wild boar ragu over pappardelle pasta came to mild first. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: At J, we are devoted to the concept of terroir in the Russian River Valley. Our 2012 J Vineyards Pinot Noir is a reflection of this vintage, the vineyards, and winemaking techniques. Sourced from four of our estate vineyards within the Russian River Valley, the fruit from each vineyard highlights site-specific characteristics that blend seamlessly to form one expressive wine. The winemaking team destemmed and fermented the grapes in small, 3 to 10 ton fermenters, then drained the wine into tight-grain French oak barrels. Our barrel regimen gently influenced the wine, while still allowing the floral and earthy flavors to take center stage.
