Wine Review: This dark red colored Napa Zinfandel from Hunnicutt is very good and was well received by the panel. It opens with a fragrant bing cherry and cola like bouquet with hints of earth and nutmeg. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic, lush and chewy. The flavor profile is a tasty sweet cherry with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, cedar plank and a dash of pepper. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors sail away nicely. I would pair this tasty Zin with braised short ribs. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: We are extremely excited about this follow up to our 2011 vintage. Once again it hails from Don Luvisi's Calistoga vineyard. We refer in jest to the block as the "Young Vines" since it is one of the younger Zin blocks on his vineyard at a youthful 62 years old. This gorgeous Zin exudes aromas of blueberry preserves, boysenberry and sweet oak. The palate offers rich, brambly blackberry and blueberry flavors with youthful tannins wrapped in a soft blanket of boysenberry and plum. The incredible depth of fruit, supported by a firm acid backbone makes this wine wonderful on its own and absolutely delicious with food.
