Wine Review: This dark red colored Sangiovese from Helix opens with an attractive black cherry bouquet with a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, smooth and approachable. The flavor profile is a tasty black cherry and oak blend with notes of dark chocolate. I also detected hints of boysenberry. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are a little sticky. This Sangiovese is drinking well right now and would pair nicely with veal parmigiana. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Candied cherry, notes of fresh tobacco and dried herb highlight the nose of our 2011 Helix Sangiovese. Classic sour-cherry aromas energizes the palate followed by a savory blend of pomegranate, dried strawberry and fig, stewed tomatoes, a wisp of tobacco, shavings of moist earth and lingering pepper. Its tannins are extremely fine and well-integrated, no more than a fleeting thought. This wine shoulders wisdom and knows how to pair well with just about any classic Italian fare. Think villa made goat cheese, fresh basil, beef Carpaccio…take a bottle to Tuscany!
