Wine Review: The opaque and deep purple colored Touriga Nacional from the DAO region in Portugal opens with a dried cherry, raisin and plum bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and juicy. The flavor profile is plum, cinnamon and earthy mineral blend with notes of oak and blackberry. I also detected hints of dried cherries and some spice towards the end. The finish is dry and its flavors and well managed moderate tannins linger nicely. I would pair the very good Touriga Nacional with slow cooker beef brisket with BBQ sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Deep ruby color. Distinctive aromas of the Touriga Nacional grape, floral hints of violet and bergamot, ripe black currant combine with the elegance of Allier oak. Robust yet smooth tannins, perfectly complemented by berry fruit flavors with great balance and complexity. Goes well with game, spicy roasted red meat.
