Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Syrah from Flanagan was the clear winner in our Big Blind Tasting. It opens with a mild smoky meat and blueberry bouquet with hints of eucalyptus and bay leaf. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, rich and savory. Like the nose, the flavor profile is a delicious blend of smoked meat, blueberry and oak. We also detected notes of minerality and hints of vanilla and wild cherry mixed in. The finish is dry and its tannins show great length. The Panel suggested pairing this Syrah with an American Kobe Cap steak from Grill 23, strong cheese and/or dark chocolate. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2016 vintage provided a modest crop of excellent fruit. The 2016 vintage was characterized by a cooler growing season and as a result are more focused. The 2016 Syrah opens with notes of white pepper, cherry blossom, and bay leaf. The palate has ripe black fruit, bacon fat, and Herbs de Provence with a surprising amount of tannin structure. The wine is ripe and generous and retains great acids. There is great color and concentration in this wine. It can stand proudly with top Syrahs from around the world.
