Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Dutton Goldfield opens with a gentle red raspberry and sage bouquet with hints of black cherry-cola, cinnamon, and violet. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, silky smooth, bold, and fresh. The flavor profile is spiced black plum and stone dust blend with notes of cedar, black raspberry, and black tea. We also detected hints of pomegranate. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate dusty tannins are nicely sustained. We would enjoy this Pinot on its own. With food, we would pair it with Stuart’s steak treats. Winemaker Notes: A bright, brambly nose greets you first from the glass, full of black fruit, red licorice, and floral notes of lilac. Following the beautiful nose, the mouth dances with flavors of pomegranate, strawberry rhubarb, and classic cherry-cola of Russian River Valley Pinot. The bright acidity and focus tannins lead to a long, lingering finish. We suggest pairings of barbeque, herb-rubbed grilled meats, or a five-spice duck confit.
