Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and ruby colored Pinot Noir from Drew opens with a red cherry and strawberry bouquet with hints of red licorice. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and bright. The flavor profile is a ripe strawberry and red cherry blend with notes of stony minerality, cranberry, and pomegranate. I also detected hints of cinnamon and red licorice. The finish is dry, and its moderate dusty tannins stick around for a very long time. This Pinot benefits from some aeration, so I would decant it before pairing it with a pulled pork platter. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The Fog-Eater is Drew's Anderson Valley appellation Pinot Noir. In 2020 they selected two sites for this blend, both located in the deep end of the valley. They've combined a La Tache selection from the Wendling Vineyard with a Swan selection from Clow Ridge. The deep end is the northwestern end of the valley, it is closer to the ocean equating more fog influence. These cooler temps preserve the tautness and energy in this classic coastal Pinot Noir. The red fruit character leans toward cranberry and pomegranate with sage and red rose petals and distinctive forest mushroom character, with bright acidity preserving the freshness on the palate. Pair with a wild mushroom risotto with a dusting of an earthy parmigiano reggiano.
