Wine Review: This brick red colored Nerello Mascalese opens with an old leather and iron shavings bouquet with hints of red plum. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and savory. The flavors profile is stony minerality and nutmeg blend with notes of black plum and dried strawberry. I also detected a touch of oak. The finish is very dry and its dusty tannins build-up and stick around for a very long time. I would pair this rustic styled Nerello with Hungarian goulash. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Pale ruby red, Sul Vulcano offers an elegant bouquet with notes of red fruits (raspberries and cherries) along with hints of fresh balsamic mint and delicate spicy nuances of star anise. The palate is fresh and with a good structure, full of silky tannins, and with a balanced and persistent finish. Perfect with Mediterranean antipasti and first courses based on eggplant or mushrooms, meat, and roast stew.
