Wine Review: This inky dark ruby colored Cabernet Franc based blend from DAOU has a lot going on. It opens with a mild tomato leaf and raspberry bouquet with hints of bubble gum and cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, bright and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a juicy black plum and vanilla-cola blend with notes of chai tea and nutmeg. We also picked up some hints of marionberry in the mix. The finish is dry, and its flavors and dusty tannins are very nicely prolonged. The Tasting Panel would pair the Cab Franc with Colorado lamb chops, Asian spiced short ribs or on its own by the fireplace. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Inspired by the classics of Saint-Émilion, the 2021 DAOU Reserve Seventeen Forty is a Cabernet Franc-driven wine with a harmonious complement of Merlot. An opaque ruby-purple hue sets a tone of depth and concentration. Enchanting aromas of violets, blueberry, dried sage, and bay leaf reveal underlying earthen notes of truffle, woodsmoke and charcuterie. The palate entry is juicy and powerful, flooding the mouth with layers of black currant, chocolate, cigar box and toasty oak. Vivid tannins and balanced acidity unfold into a long, structured finish.
