Wine Review: This pitch black colored Malbec from Alexander Valley opens with a very inviting blueberry bouquet with a hint of acai berry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, rich, silky and a little juicy. The flavor profile is a blueberry and black plum blend with nicely integrated mild vanilla and oak. I also detected a touch red raspberry as well. The finish is dry and its flavors and very fine tannins fade away nicely. This is the style of Malbec that made it a very popular grape. It is food friendly and would pair well with many foods. For me, slow cooked beef brisket came to mind. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: "Best Barrels" is only produced if and when there is something that we think is really special. It started with the 2003 vintage when we discovered one outstanding barrel that happened to be Malbec from vines that I planted in 1987. I made the commitment to make a best barrel from whatever is best and only in great years. In 2005 Best Barrels was Syrah. In 2007 we made a Cabernet. The 2010 vintage has given us 3 wines to single out: Malbec, Merlot, and Cabernet (to be released 2014).
