Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Shiraz based wine from South Africa opens with a blackberry and smoked meat bouquet with hints of black olive and espresso. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, fresh, and very fruit forward. This fruit flavors are extracted blackberry and ripe black cherry with notes of clove spice drops and red licorice. I also detected some hints of cinnamon tea, black plum, and a dash of black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate tannins linger and last for quite some time. This Shiraz blend has benefited from some bottle age. I would pair it with lamb kabobs. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Deep ruby with a bright crimson rim. An entry of alluring black, red berry and cherry aromas layered with dark chocolate, winter spice, rose and violet on the nose carried through to an intricate intensely fruited palate that is both powerful and graceful. A long, full finish of good length and complexity. This is a brilliant food wine that will match a variety of dishes including rosemary roasted lamb, steaks, spicy sausages and tomato-based vegetable ragout.
