Wine Review: This dark garnet colored Mencia from Alvaredos-Hobbs opens with a cedar and band-aid bouquet with hints of violet and maraschino cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is well-balanced, plush, and smooth. The flavor profile is a cedar and mild Bing cherry blend with notes of red Twizzler. We also detected hints of dried strawberry, clove, and chocolate. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and mild tannins fade away nicely. The Tasting Panel would pair this Mencia with cedar plank salmon or with a slice of German chocolate cake.
