Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Italian wine from Allegrini opens with a fragrant cherry and black licorice bouquet with a hint of cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and juicy. The flavor profile is a blackberry, black licorice, and tart plum blend with notes of flinty minerality. I also detected hints of Earl grey tea and fig. The finish is dry, and its flavors and moderate tannins linger nicely. I would pair this Corvina based wine with a Tuscan-style veal chop. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This is a full-bodied, intense, and elegant wine. Deep ruby red in color, it has a very broad bouquet that ranges from the typical scents of red berries to juniper, with final notes of tobacco and coffee. The excellent exposure of the vineyards, which enjoy good sunshine and almost constant breezes, allows the grapes to express their highest potential. Skillful ageing in the cellar yields a very elegant and harmonious red that is refined and capable of evolving positively for over a decade. La Grola is excellent paired with red meat dishes, whether roasted or with dark sauces, and especially lamb.
