Wine Review: I’ve tried a lot of New Zealand Pinot Noir lately looking for a winner. This Staete Landt qualifies for a top 10 finish if not top 5. The bouquet of this wine is floral and just lovely. On the palate, the wine is terrifically balanced and has wonderful flavors. This very smooth wine will match well with many foods. The finish is dry and quite prolonged. This wine is very well done. Bravo! Staete Landt is just coming to the US, so you will have to work a little to find it, but I can assure you it will be worth it. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This wine was aged in 25% new French oak barrels and 75% older French oak barrels. This has produced a subtle, well structured wine with ripe fruit tannins. This pinot noir has aromas of ripe black cherries and violets with a lovely earthy complexity. A full bodied elegant wine with great complexity and a lingering finish. This wine will repay cellaring for three to five years.
