Wine Review: When New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is made well, it can be fascinating. This one that I discovered at the Washington DC Wine Expo was a stunner. This light colored wine has an inviting light fragrance of grapefruit. On the palate, the wine has extremely good balance of its acids and fruits. As you savour the wine, you notice it has a slight creamy texture to it. This is a very good food pairing wine. I’m thinking Chicken Piccata. The finish is dry and has nice length for a Sauvignon Blanc. I found this wine irresistible. Staete Landt is just coming to the US, so you will have to work a little to find it, but I can assure you it will be worth it. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: A complex and intensely aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is perfumed with aromas of passionfruit and gooseberries. On the palate the wine is full bodied with real concentration of flavour and aroma, a passionfruit character is dominant but this is backed by subtle mineral and spicy, dry hay characters with creamy almost nutty complexity and a crisp ripe attractive acidity. This is a wine for drinking whilst young but has the substance and concentration to develop well over two to five years once the primary fruit aromas have subsided.
